Remember the Time

I had just finalized my playlist for this edition when I found myself shocked to the core by the news of Michael Jackson’s death. As a young, black kid growing up in Gary, IN during the King of Pop’s reign (aka 1980s). . .I often looked to MJ as proof that a kid from this rustic, steel town could venture out and make a tremendous impact on the world. MJ defined what it means to be an icon, a status earned through a lifetime of relentless dedication to entertain the masses. RIP Michael Joseph Jackson…the world will miss you while the universe further embraces you.

There are tons of MJ tribute podcasts, mixtapes, radio shows and blog posts being posted or already posted – so we’re gonna continue to keep it grown and sexy with the best soul and progressive hip hop in the world. Don’t get it twisted, I have included an MJ-inspired set that you’re sure to enjoy as we celebrate, mourn, laugh, cry and moonwalk all weekend.

We also opened up the FFC HOTLINE last night to capture your favorite MJ memories and we’ve included them in this show as well. As I type, my emotions are swimming in a heavy pond of sadness and just a weight of grief with no clear plan on how to fully release what I feel. I think this edition of the FFC is a start.

Let’s celebrate the life of the greatest entertainer of our time. Join me in ushering in another hot weekend. Take a moment to thank God for your life and the lives of those around you. This human experience is a precious thing – do what you can to make the most of every moment.

It’s [still] a celebration. . .

Thanks so much for this Fave – as time passes on from yesterday’s shock, I too am feeling a great wave of sadness. Something about this person’s life – the struggles, the fame, the glamor and the pain. He truly made an impact and I hope we can all take some time to realize the great people we have around us. There is a reason why they say life is short.
